Introducing

Rando.lol

This project is approximately

The idea is pretty simple: Most sites don't need to know who you are. That random newsletter, forum, NeoPets, etc - they'll continue to function perfectly fine without correlating an account to a real-world human being. As such, you can comfortably give them a one-time, single purpose, ephemeral pseudonym.

There are a bunch of benefits to doing this. The main two are that 1) it makes it harder for to be tracked around the internet for advertising and analytics purposes, and 2) when one of them eventually gets breached, your personal info can't then be weaponized as an attack vector into other parts of your life.

Rando.lol allows you to

  • Generate a unique name. Leveraging the excellent work on Behind the Name, we can generate a random human name from a globe-encompassing list of names.
  • Generate a unique headshot. Some websites strongly encourage uploading a photo, don't want to leave them hanging! Note that currently names are not matched with ethnically likely photos, but once I wrap my head around StyleGAN, we can fix that.
  • Generate a unique email. Get a fresh, name-specific @rando.lol email address. This will work great until provides start adding the 'rando.lol' domain to their blacklists.
